SustFest is a community umbrella festival organised by volunteers from the charity Sustainable St Albans. It consists of multiple events all happening within a two week period in and around the district of St Albans and on the theme of Sustainability.
2022 was the sixth Sustainability Festival. It was a hybrid festival of online and in-person events and took place 15-31 May across St Albans, Harpenden and the villages.
A working group of volunteers
Each year a working group, made up of volunteers representing communities from across the district, gets together to organise the festival. Time and effort are put in by these volunteers to create a festival that attracts thousands of residents to get involved with the events of the festival and to be inspired to go on and make changes to their lifestyle.
If you have some time to spare and would like to help with a future SustFest, we are always looking for new contributions – you don’t have to represent a community group. Whether you’re an Instagram whizz, can put up posters, are great at fundraising forms or are good at taking minutes, we’re always grateful for more hands. Contact us to let us know you can help.
A network of community events
The working group encourages local not-for-profit groups, faith groups, businesses and entrepreneurs, schools and colleges from all over the district to run events and activities during the festival. All events must fit with the 10 themes of sustainability from the Bioregional rainbow list. For more information see our Sustainability page.
The list of the dozens of organisations that got involved with SustFest22 is on our supporters page here. Our huge thanks go to all these amazing people who put on a massive array of interesting and innovative events and activities in 2022.
Funding and sponsorship
We have to fundraise from scratch each year, requesting grants, and seeking sponsorship from local organisations. Grants are secured by Sustainable St Albans.
Our sponsors and funders page here lists those to whom we owe enormous thanks in 2022.
