1. What is SustFest?

SustFest is a community-led Sustainability Festival, running in the District of St Albans in Hertfordshire for more than five years. The festival is an umbrella and listing event made up of a programme of dozens of events put on by community businesses and organisations on an annual basis. 2021 dates were 23rd May and 6th June 2021, the programme for which can be found here.

2. What geographical area does the festival cover?

The festival covers the St Albans District *across St Albans, Harpenden and the villages*. It is not a “one location” festival but consists of a programme of dozens of events put on across the district by a huge variety of businesses and community groups during the two weeks.

3. Where can I see information the 2021 festival?
You can find the 2021 programme here. The 2022 programme will be released in April.

4. What kind of things can I expect?

10 principles of Bioregional's One Planet Living framework

Groups, organisations, charities and businesses run all sorts of innovative and interesting activities during the festival.   All events must fit within the One Planet Living Framework from Bioregional, illustrated here.

Previous events have included a whale sculpture out of discarded plastic…lectures and talks by experts ….fashion swap shops…..a scavenger hunt….an upcycling workshop for teenagers … alongside walks, talks, films, nature hunts and much more.

5. Are there any events open to the general public?

Yes, most events are open to the general public. The programme and website details all public events with dates, times and (where relevant) ticket prices. There are also many internal events in, eg, schools, businesses, faith groups etc. These will be listed as such in the programme for information, but without time and location.

6. How much does it cost to go to an event?

If an event is ticketed, it will be made clear in the programme and there will be details to book your ticket and what cost, if any applies. SustFest does not sell tickets directly and all events will be ticketed by the host organisation of that particular event. Many events in the Festival programme are free.

7. Do I need to book to go to an event?

The booking details of an event will be listed in the programme. However, many of the events do not need booking.

9. Who organises the festival?

SustFest is organised by Sustainable St Albans, a local environmental charity.  We seek funding from various sources, including national and local grants, local business sponsors and advertisers in the programme. Read more on our About page.
